Aptitude - 3rd important part in Campus Placement Preparation

9/07/2013 10:18:00 AM

Hi Friends,
In our previous post we covered the importance of Technical & Communication Skills for Campus Placements. The next very important part of preparation is APTITUDE. One very simple and tested way to go ahead about it is practicing from book by R.S. Aggrawal

There are 2 parts of it - Quantitative Aptitude & Qualitative Aptitude.

Quantitative Aptitude: In this you need to solve problems concerning calculations like Time & Speed, Work & Time, Upstream - Downstream etc. If you remember the Unitary Method questions which you solved in standard 10th then, Quantitative aptitude is just the enlarged form of the same.

Quantitative Aptitude: In this you will have to identify patterns. It could be based on pictures, relationships or some other logic.

RS Aggrawal has 2 books one for both of above. But, building your aptitude skills is not one month job. You need to work on it continuously, by devoting few hours every week. Generally students, go for aptitude preparation only a month before the Campus Placements are announced, and hence they feel a lot of pressure on them. There are so many types of problems to be covered, and very less time.

So here is the strategy - "Atleast from your second year of B.Tech, start devoting 3 hours per week (for an average student) to practice aptitude." In the First Year, most of the students spend their time writing some foolish assignments, making some good looking practical records etc. The load reduces from Second Year, and hence that should be your starting time for Aptitude Preparation.

Aptitude is all about understanding clearly and practicing the same. Hence, always sit with paper and pen and solve as much as possible. Important points to remember - "Everybody would be able to solve questions asked in aptitude exams, but the important part is doing the questions correct and that too in limited amount of time." If you solve a question correct in 5 minutes, then there is no use.

The aptitude paper given by companies or any other entrance exams test your accuracy along with speed. Hence, you will have like 90 minutes to solve 60 questions, for example. You cannot afford to read a question twice. Hence, your concentration and practice plays an important role here. You should not be doing any silly mistakes in your calculations, because there won't be any time for review. So, you just look at a question once and solve it, that's all.

In the coming posts, we will cover various topics on Aptitude. Keep yourself updated. You can subscribe to this blog by providing your email on the Right side.
