All the students who join Engineering College have a dream of coming out with flying colors at the end of 4 years. This means having gained some good skills and and a good job offer. But it takes really long time for a fresher to figure out the way to prepare for it. In the following posts, we will cover the various aspects you need to work upon, in order to get success in your Campus Placements.
Any company which comes for recruitment looks for 2 things - Technical Knowledge and Communication Skills. I will elaborate on that.
Technical Knowledge - By no way, a company expects a B.Tech. fresher to be Scientist, but yes they do expect that you have the basics clear in your mind. The mistake which most of the students do in the course of 4 years is - "they study so many things, but really understand none of the concepts". They know definition of so many terms but real understanding of how it works, or why it even exists, they don't have.
Hence, the solution to this is here - "You need to read about a concept from the book, and then try to execute or experiment with that concept on your Computer". Be it any subject, Operating System, C C++ Programming, Data Structures, Networks etc. - go ahead and try to explore those things which you are reading in the book. An example to that is - look out for the Network Setup in your lab, and try relating it to what you have studied in the Networks book. Sad part is not many of the students, even think of doing that.
B.Tech is not about Passing Exams, and scoring High Marks. Your marks are going to be just a criteria to sit in the Campus Placements, and after that your knowledge only plays the game.
Communications Skills - It's OK if you were an isolated fellow in your school. You used to sit somewhere in the corner, take notes, do homework, talk to 3-4 guys. But once you enter a professional course like B.Tech you cannot afford to continue this behavior. You need to be interactive. And that means you should be able to talk to any person, be that person of any gender, whether he is known to you or not.
So, what is the way to improve your Communication Skills? The best way is "look out for opportunities to go on the stage". Stage Fear is one thing which causes so many failures. Next is Grammar, work on improving your Grammar - learn different forms of Verb and try using that in your daily talking. E.g. I still notice so many senior people committing mistakes like - "I did not completed that work." They are not aware of using the First form of Verb in the above scenario. Once you are clear with the usage of different forms of Verb, your 50% of English Learning is complete. Rest you just need to practice by talking to your friends on a daily basis, and finding chances to jump on stage and addressing audience.
In next post, we shall understand more on how to go forward about the learning process, and making yourself ready.
