So many students after joining the B.Tech keep wondering about "Programming". Trust me, many of them even come out of college and never get to learn or understand programming. In this post, we will see how to go ahead and learn Programming, right from the very basics.
Simple, it is a way of telling somebody to do a job in a certain manner. E.g. I ask you to add 2 numbers, by explaining the method how to do it. When we write the same thing for a machine, it is called a Program.
Art of writing Program is Programming.
I have never used computer ever before, how to start?
Easy. Find out a Lab in your college and get its timings. And you can start very well.
You need to follow a language to write these programs, that is the Programming language. It's good to start your Programming practice with "C". C is a powerful yet easy-to-learn language. It's not easy to explain what all can be accomplished using C. Just for an example, complete Operating Systems are written in C. Sounds good ???
OK, to learn C, you need to buy just one book - the classic one - Let us C by Yashwant Kanetkar. It's a wonderful book and teaches you the basic concepts of programming along with the C language.
Understand the concept and usage of Function, Return Types, loops, operators, datatypes, pointers etc. The target should be to complete this book by the end of 1st Semester. And you should not be achieving this just in terms of going through the book, you should also solve the exercises given in it, then only you will get the real feel of programming. In case you are stuck, ask your seniors, you can can also post here in comments. Anyways, there is a book available "Let us C solutions" as well. How many of you have achieved the landmark ?? Congrats !!
So, work hard and make every minute of college useful. All the best !!!
